Dynamic. The well-balanced, low noise all-rounder that gives
precision performance at a budget price. Designed for general use, it is ideal
for spoken voice and various music styles.
TDK Life on Record's D is widely considered the benchmark of all the
'budget' ferric formulations. Designed for all general taping applications,
no other Normal Position tape has such a wide range of uses. Whether it be used
in a portable cassette device, car audio unit or home entertainment system,
D is the cost effective choice.
Applications
Budget hi-fi systems
Radio/cassette (portables)
Car audio systems
Personalised headphone systems.
Considered the 'basic' tape, D still offers the
same exacting manufacturing standards as all TDK Life on Record cassette tapes. D utilises
a highly refined pure grained ferric formulation that has long been considered
an ideal magnetic composition for Normal Position tapes. The higher the MOL
(Maximum Output Level), the more effective is the tape in achieving a clearer
sound without distorting, and this is where this 'basic' tape excels.
Offering generous headroom with MOLs + 3.5db (ref 315Hz)
and -7.5db (ref 10kHz), D is able to absorb music containing high levels of
sound energy without fear of saturation. However, headroom is only part of the
picture, and a tape must have extremely low bias noise or 'hiss'.
D's improved formulation means low bias noise of -55.0dB. The combination
of low bias noise and ample headroom means D exhibits excellent dynamic range,
the difference between loud and quiet notes. Good dynamic range gives music
fire, setting it apart from music that's just flat and lifeless. The binder
used in D has the important job of holding the formulation firmly in place,
protecting the magnetic particles from the atmosphere and providing ideal friction
to the tape head. This new binder offers optimum low friction resistance, contributing
substantially to tape running stability and able to withstand the demands of
repeated use.
The Mechanism
A highly reliable HP (High Precision) mechanism employs double clamps, non-parting
guide rollers and other exact components to house the tape in a totally reliable
and quiet transport system. All mechanical components are measured to extremely
small tolerances to ensure the HP mechanism works in combination with the tape.
Low rotational torques as used in headphone stereo sets and portables radio
cassettes will appreciate the low friction resistance and stable tape run this
mechanism offers.
