TDK Life on Record Blu-ray Discs are breakthrough recording technology from the only media company that's a founding member of the Blu-ray Disc Association. 25GB single-layer and 50GB dual-layer recordable and rewritable versions enable massive data backups and the highest resolution HD recording.
Through its research and development of optical discs, TDK Life on Record has conducted necessary technical development for the next-generation disc utilizing the blue laser, including DURABIS hard coating formulation which protects the media surface against scratches and other contaminants that would destroy lesser discs. This hard coating technology enables the Blu-ray disc to be produced “bare,” (i.e., without requiring a cartridge) --- which provides users with convenience of mobility and creates an opportunity to develop Blu-ray hardware which is backwards compatible with DVD and CD media. Other developments include advanced spin coat manufacturing process and ultra-precise recording materials to ensure pure recording perfection and Multiple layering technology for the recording layer, to make possible increased disc capacity. Find out more about DURABIS technology.
TDK Life on Record is a member of the Blu-ray Disc Founders group; other major companies promoting the format are Dell, HP, Hitachi, LG Electronics, Matsushita, Mitsubishi, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony and Thompson. With wide support of these consumer electronics and computers manufacturers, together with its advanced technology and earlier introduction to the market, Blu-ray Disc are known to be the most possible replacement of DVD as the next generation optical storage media.
